Copying Settings to a New Store
Last Updated: September 14, 2026
You can ask ReturnGO Support to copy most of your eligible settings from one of your existing stores to a new store, instead of configuring the new store from scratch.
What Is a Settings Copy?
A settings copy is a one-time transfer of eligible ReturnGO settings from one of your stores to another. ReturnGO Support runs it for you using the Locale Copier tool, so there is nothing for you to run yourself.
The store you copy from is the source store. The store you copy into is the destination store.
Note: Some settings cannot be transferred because they are tied to a specific store, contain credentials, or are stored separately. You configure those yourself after the copy is done.
Requirements
Before requesting a copy, check the following:
- You have an existing ReturnGO store to copy from, with the settings you want already configured.
- ReturnGO is installed on your new store, and you can access its dashboard.
- You have access to both stores.
Tip: A settings copy works best on a new or empty store. If your destination store already has settings configured, ask ReturnGO Support how the copy will affect them before requesting it.
Limitations
A settings copy is a starting point, not a finished store. Keep the following in mind:
- Some settings and configurations are not copied and need to be set up manually on your new store.
- Copied settings carry your source store's wording and rules, which may not suit the new store, its market, or its customers.
- The two stores do not stay in sync. Changes you make to one store later do not carry over to the other.
Note: A settings copy is not an exact copy of your existing store. Review and test your new store's full configuration before making it live.
How to Request a Settings Copy
To request a settings copy, please contact ReturnGO Support.
Include both of these in your message so the ReturnGO Support team can run the copy without going back and forth:
- The link to the source store, meaning the store you want to copy settings from.
- The link to the destination store, meaning the store you want the settings copied to.
ReturnGO Support will confirm when the copy is complete.
What Gets Copied
ReturnGO can copy most general settings, including:
- General store settings, apart from the fields listed in What Is Not Copied.
- Portal customization.
- Email settings and customization.
- Translations, locales, and localization states.
- Resolutions, including deleted resolutions that your policies still need.
- Return reasons, follow-up questions, and answers.
- Currencies.
- Return methods and their return addresses.
- Standard policies, including availability, conditions, and fees.
What Is Not Copied
The following are not copied and need to be set up manually on your new store:
- Store details. Store name, URL, domain, refund policy, and return policy URL.
- Email logo. This is cleared on purpose and has to be uploaded again.
- Shipping and carrier connections. Carrier credentials, label and drop-off configurations, and the integration mappings for your return methods.
- Other third-party integrations. Connections and credentials for any other integrated service.
- Custom and API policies. Only standard policies are copied.
- Feature-specific settings that are stored separately. These include event and shipment notifications, Instant Exchange, Switch to Exchange, refund to bank, discount caps, Create RMA, inactive RMA cancellation, notification-only mode, refund and fee settings, Any-to-Any Exchange, coverage, and exchange location filters.
Note: Your return methods are copied, but their carrier connections are not. A return method will appear in your new store, but it won't work until you reconnect the carrier and remap the integration.
After the Copy
Once ReturnGO Support confirms the copy is complete, work through your new store before you go live.
To finish setting up your new store:
- Go to Settings > General and update your store name, URL, domain, refund policy, and return policy URL.
- Go to Settings > Emails and upload your email logo.
- Reconnect your shipping carriers and any other third-party integrations, then remap them to your return methods.
- Recreate any custom or API policies you need.
- Review the feature-specific settings listed in What Is Not Copied and configure the ones you use.
- Review your copied policies, return methods, resolutions, return reasons, and translations, and edit anything written for your old store.
- Submit a test return through your new portal and follow it through to completion.
Tip: Pay close attention to the copied texts and translations. They were written for a different store and may mention the wrong brand name, return window, or policy.
